Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the things people ask us most.

What is an independent insurance broker?

A broker works for you, not for an insurer. Because we are independent, we can look across a range of insurers to find cover that fits your circumstances, instead of offering the products of just one company.

Does it cost more to use a broker?

Not necessarily. Often we can arrange cover at a similar price to going direct, and we add advice and support with claims. If we charge a fee or receive commission, we will tell you before you commit.

How do I get a quote?

Use the quote form on this website or call us. Tell us what you need covered and we will come back to you, usually within a couple of hours during opening times. If we need more detail, we will ask.

What do I need to have ready for a quote?

It depends on the cover. For a home you will want the address, the rebuild value if known, and details of any past claims. For a vehicle, the registration and your licence details help. For a business, have your turnover, staff numbers and any current policy to hand.

How do I make a claim?

Contact us as soon as you can. Take photographs, keep any damaged items and receipts, and note dates and who you spoke to. We will help you notify your insurer and guide you through the process.

Can I change my policy part-way through the year?

Usually, yes. If you move house, change your car or your business changes, tell us and we will arrange the adjustment with your insurer. Some changes may alter the premium.

What happens when my policy is due for renewal?

Before your renewal date we review your cover and, where we can, look at the market again. We will contact you with the options so you are not simply rolled over onto a higher price.

Are you regulated?

Yes. Hintsure is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 601384). You can check our entry on the FCA Register.

What if I am not happy with the service?

We would like the chance to put it right. Please see our complaints procedure, which explains how to complain and what happens next.

How do you look after my personal information?

We only use your details to provide insurance services and to contact you about them. Our privacy policy explains what we hold, why, and your rights.
